30 Non-Typical Things to Grill

Let’s face it, spring is here, the weather is beautiful, and we need to get out of the house. Sure, we are pit masters on pork and beef. We have tried fish and seafood, heck we even smoked a cheesecake. If you are wondering what else you can do with your grill, this blog is for you! In no particular order:

  1. Grilled Romain: If you are looking for a unique and different salad, give your romaine hearts a quick blast on the grill.
  2. Grilled Mushrooms: From portabella to buttons, adding grilled mushrooms to a dish or as a main course is delicious!
  3. Avocados: Avocados are not just for guacamole anymore, although a smoked avocado guacamole sounds amazing. Stuff one and put it on the grill.
  4. Grilled Donuts: Warm a donut on the grill is a great way to refresh a stale donut.
  5. Sweet Potatoes: Cut them in slices for “steaks” and top with your favorite BBQ sauce and a spicy fruit salsa.
  6. Grilled Bananas: Grill in their peel, split open and top with granola, chocolate chips, honey or just about anything.
  7. Pineapple: Try grilling pineapple and use it in a pineapple margarita, add some grilled jalapeno to it for an extra kick. Or, slice, grill and serve with a coconut sorbet.
  8. Oranges: Give oranges a quick turn on the grill to add some smokiness. Enjoy as is or add to a tasty salad.
  9. Grilled Watermelon: Eat this unique grilled fruit by adding some feta for a sweet and salty kick.
  10. Tofu: We know this might not be for everyone but try making cutting tofu into 1/2-inch thick slices, soaking in a marinade or curry, drain and heat on the grill.
  11. Peppers: From Bell to Chipotle or Anjos, grilled peppers are delicious.
  12. Zucchini: We all have plenty in the beginning of summer, so why not try something different for this vegetable.
  13. Artichokes: Be sure to use canned or clean and boil before adding them to the grill. This gives them an amazing smoky flavor.
  14. Bread: Toast up your favorite bread. From your typical white bread to tortillas, naan or pita. Add smoked butter (directions here) for something extra special.
  15. Peaches: Slice in half and remove pit. Brush with butter and grill till warmed, sliced side down. Top with Fat Boy Cowgirl Sweet & Hot finishing glaze and add a dollop of mascarpone or creme fresh on top. Or, quarter peaches, wrap in bacon, grill and drizzle with balsamic.
  16. French Toast: Crunchy, smoky and sweet, YUM!
  17. Grapes: Grill grapes and serve with a pork loin.
  18. Limes: Use for Margaritas or squeeze on your favorite fish, Mexican food.
  19. Cauliflower: Cut slices, brush with olive oil, and grill for an amazing meatless option.
  20. Asparagus: We would  wrap small bundles with bacon and delicious no matter how you do it.
  21. Corn: Grilled corn on the cob is amazing. Baste with butter, sprinkle with our Fat Boy Coyote Canyon Rub and a crumbly cheese (see recipe).
  22. Cabbage: Lightly grill from an interesting coleslaw or grill more for a unique spin on corned beef and cabbage.
  23. Pizza Rolls: Now, I have not personally tried this but why not skewer them and grill them for added flavor and crispiness.
  24. Broccoli: Slather in a spiced mustard yogurt sauce then grill.
  25. Tomatoes: Quickly char on the grill for a fascinating salsa.
  26. Onions: Green or cut an onion bulb in half and char. Use in literally anything calling for onion.
  27. Ramps: Personally we have never had ramps but they are on our bucket list for sure and we can’t wait to grill and try.
  28. Carrots: Try them on the grill to serve with your next pot roast.
  29. Popcorn: Add oil to a deep pan, heat on grill, add popcorn, cover and wait.
  30. Grapefruit: Cut in half, sprinkle the inside with cinnamon and sugar or honey, add a little butter and caramelize it on the grill.
